Census Data

The above image comes from the Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs collection and is dated from 1917. It was used as part of the military census.
The United States conducts its decennial census every ten years. For the years 1990 and 2000, the census results were published in electronic format. Since 2006, the Census Bureau has been conducting the American Survey on the intervening years between censuses. Both the Census and the American Community Survey provide socio-economic data. Below you will find links to the American Community Survey as well as profiles of selected areas in Hillsborough County.

The American Community Survey
  • is an on-going survey
  • is sent to a small sample of the population
  • tells us what the population looks like and how it lives
  • helps communities determine where to locate services and allocate resources
What is the Census
  • The census is a count of everyone living in the United States every 10 years.
  • The census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution.
  • Participation in the census is required by law.
  • Federal law protects the personal information shared during the census.
