3D Planning and Visualization

by tatuma last modified 2008-02-11 08:15

The Planning Commission is using the latest in 3D Internet technology to bring a visual dimension to Plan Amendments, Comprehensive Plans, Community Plans, and other long-range planning projects.

bannerWhat is the role of 3D in Planning?

The Planning Commission has implemented an interactive, Internet-based 3-Dimensional system that enhances the display of data and communicates planning concepts and ideas with clarity, precision, and efficiency. The system is available to planners, officials, and citizens via an Internet browser and can be used to display plan amendments sites, communities and neighborhoods, environmental projects, and Geographic Information System (GIS) maps. How do I view the 3D Visualizations?

The 3D visualizations are viewable as "fly files" created using an application called Terra Explorer. The fly files are viewable using Internet Explorer in conjunction with the Terra Explorer plug-in, available from Skyline's website. Use the link provided and download the plugin, following Skyline's instructions for installation.

What 3D visualizations can I view?

Once you've successfully downloaded and installed the Terra Explorer plugin you are ready to start exploring the 3D data available! Below are links to various fly files generated by Planning Commission staff.
