Pictometry

by tatuma last modified 2007-07-06 17:08

The Planning Commission has acquired a 3D-like aerial system called Pictometry, which the Planning staff can use from their desktop PCs. This new system is provided to us free, thanks to the Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee, who purchased a county-wide government site license using a grant.

The software works well with our existing GIS data, including our ESRI-based shape file and ArcSDE formats. In addition to being accessed through ArcMap, it also comes with its own Electronic Field Study software.

A planner can zoom into and area using a reference map, parcel number, or street address, and generate aerial image taken from many different directions. The clarity of the images when printed out is outstanding.

This system has many applications in long-range comprehensive planning.
